London: Sachin Tendulkar is chilling out in style in this flashy and vibrant city. Indeed, there’s something unique about this place that compels classy people to be here during the summer. Yet, even as the little champion spends quality time here to unwind and recover fully from his groin injury, his prime focus remains getting back to the batting crease.
Tendulkar has already done some serious batting practice in the last couple of weeks. And judging by the time he’s spending at the ‘nets’ at Lord’s and training with the Lashings Cricket Club, the little big man of Indian cricket looks set to come back for India’s tour of Sri Lanka in mid-July.
In his first game in over a month, Tendulkar scored 32, in 35 overs-a-side game for Lashings. “I’m feeling great and I’m enjoying myself playing a few games for Lashings,’’ Tendulkar told TOI having returned from yet another session at Lord’s.
Asked about his troublesome groin, that kept him out of the tri-series in Bangladesh and the Asia Cup, Tendulkar said, “It’s looking good...getting better.’’
While Tendulkar has been pursing his interest in other sports, he is also keeping track of the ‘Men in Blue’ and is happy to note that the team is doing well in the Asia Cup.
He is also aware of the high-profile felicitation given to the 1983 World Cup winning team both in India and at the Long Room at Lord’s and feels happy for them. “They deserve every bit of accolade that’s coming their way,’’ he said.
Last week, Tendulkar dashed off to Magny Cours for the French Grand Prix, making his presence felt with Force India owner Vijay Mallya. “I went there to pledge my support to the Indian team,’’ reckoned Tendulkar whose love for fast cars and Formula One is well documented.
While the Euro had this country in a grip of delight in recent weeks, Tendulkar confessed he’s not a huge soccer fan. That privilege he seems to reserve for Roger Federer and Wimbledon. “I like the atmosphere at Wimbledon. It’s definitely one of the most popular Grand Slam events,’’ opined Tendulkar who was a special invitee to the Royal Box on ‘Sporting Saturday’ as they call it.<<back
