DUBAI: Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Asif continues to remain in detention in Dubai on suspicion of his possessing and consuming an illegal substance.Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE Ahsan Ullah Khan said he was still awaiting the results of the laboratory test of the substance.
In Lahore, Pakistan Cricket Board chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi was quoted by AFP as saying Dubai authorities were awaiting the “results of a urine test carried out on Asif and on the substance which was found in his possession.”
The urine test was carried out apparently to ascertain possible consumption of a banned substance.
Mr. Naghmi said it could take “three to four days” for the legal process in the UAE to conclude.
A three-day mourning declared in the UAE following the death of a royal family member could also delay the proceedings.
